This Wetherspoon pub, a former police station and courthouse, is named after the towns first policeman, appointed in 1836. It is ideally situated in the centre of town, directly opposite the railway station and a short walk from the bus terminus. A typical 'Spoons' pub, it has an open plan interior, with a family area at the rear and the four alcoves were once the 'lock-ups' for the town! The bar offers three permanent and up to four changing beers, often including a locally brewed ale, plus real ciders usually available.
