This well laid out, elegantly styled Victorian pub sports an exterior stone sign proclaiming its rebuilding in 1898. Below that, the entrance leads into the bar lounge, with an adjoining restaurant and dining area is to the right. Lunchtime and evening meals offers seasonal Welsh food, including bottomless brunches and Sunday roasts. The modern refurbishment builds on its heritage with an on-site small-batch distillery which contributes ingredients to the cocktails on offer. Entertainment ranges from board games, bingo and quiz nights to live music. Located adjacent to the parish church of St Mary The Virgin, it offers succour before or after church services. Close to Newport Wetlands and RSPB Centre.
Note there is a demand response transport (DRT) bus service which needs to be pre-booked via Newport Bus and runs only between 0730 and 1830. The regular Newport Bus 45 service to the Wetlands runs only until early afternoon.
